Solange Let’s Her Scalp Breathe

Solange has been Twittering a lot about being over the whole hair thing.

index.php

She debuted her new bald ‘do out and about in Cali this week.

No strong feelings either way about this one. I just think I’d like it better died a bright color, even if people would say she bit Amber Rose.

UPDATE: Solange can’t believe she’s a bigger Twitter trending topic than Iran. She has a point. She also said she wasn’t trying to have a “style” she was just tired of spending so much time and money on hair.

If the dates on the paparazzi shots are correct, Solange slapped on a wig for an event the same night this photo was taken. So, she’s still looking to shake it up on occasion.

Paula Is Not Forever Idol’s Girl :(

“I find it under these circumstances particularly unusual; I think unnecessarily hurtful” – Paula Abdul’s manager David Sonenberg

According to her manager, American Idol judge Paula Abdul has yet to receive a contract for season nine, which begins taping auditions in three weeks. David Sonenberg told the LA Times that he finds this “particularly unusual” and “unnecessarily hurtful.”

Even before the show added a second woman judge, songwriter Kara DioGuardi, rumors began that Abdul may be leaving, or asked to leave, the show.

Abdul’s glowing, often incoherent critiques have been mocked in the press and on late night. Abdul’s discussed chronic pain and a dependence on pain killers in interviews.

I think people forget, this is Paula freakin Abdul. She actual was a pop star! Her perspective is needed on that panel much more than the perspective of say, a songwriter.

She’s had a rough go for a few years but, Paula did help launch the Idol brand. Let’s not forget that prior to the first season the names Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell meant absolutely nothing to most Americans. And Kara, well, no one knew her name before last season.

Idol without Paula – not a good look.

Harry Potter’s Down with the Swirl

“I really have no preference, though. Nationality is nothing. It’s all about the girl – but she has to be curvy!” – Daniel Radcliffe

When asked by the NY Daily News about the type of woman he prefers – American or British – Daniel Radcliffe replied that it’s the curves he cares about not nationality.

This reminded me of something that stuck out to me about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It seems color may also make no difference to Daniel Harry Radcliffe Potter. In the beginning of the film, Harry flirts and makes plans with a lovely young black woman – with a natural. This, along with the above comment leads me to the conclusion that Harry, I mean Daniel, no Harry – whatever – likes black women!

Black girl nerds everywhere rejoice!

*Side note: Ginny Weasley also has a brief interracial romance with classmate Dean, who is black.

You Go Back To Her, She’ll Go Back to Black

Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil, aka Blake Incarcerated, were granted a divorce today (Thursday) by a London judge.

winehouse_arriving

Amy, who recently popped back up in the UK looking better than she’s looked since becoming a superstar, admitted adultery and did not contest the divorce initiated by Blake. No word on whether or not Blake, who said in divorce papers he found living with Winehouse “intolerable,” admitted to being a complete and total scum bucket.

Couture Goes Gaga

Is It Just Us, Or Was Lady Gaga’s Influence All Over Couture? – Style.com

It’s been a while since a new pop artist hit as hard as Lady Gaga. Her style gets as much press as her music and now it looks like she’s had a major influence on fashion.

The latest collections from Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy, Christian Lacroix and Chanel all had looks that could of come right out of Gaga’s closet.

Check out this pants-less look Gaultier. It screams Gaga!

Back Together Like a Horse and Carriage

I don’t know that people are actually checking for this, but still feels like “news.”

Frienemies Mase and Camron have reunited after years-long beef. The pair recorded a new track “Get It.” Mase has said in recent weeks that his return to music was inspired by Michael Jackson’s death.

The Blueprint of Jay’s Lyrics

The New York Observer is reporting that Jay-Z is about to close a book deal with Random House’s Spiegel & Grau imprint.

Sources tell the paper the book will be Jay’s commentary on and explanation of his lyrics. Sounds great. I’ll be interested to see how the married and very gentlemanly Jigga will explain songs like, “Big Pimpin” and “Girls, Girls, Girls.”

Musical Evolution or PR Strategy?

One of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind since Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna – what’s next for the former good boy pop sweetheart?

When Chris Brown and Rihanna first came out as a couple she was the good girl who’d gone bad and he was still just a good boy – or so we thought. She seemed older, mature and even a little fast for him. He was clean-cut singing about romance and puppy love, with the exception of the almost uncomfortable “Take You Down.”

The juxtaposition of their images made what happened on the night before the Grammys even harder to believe.

So, what can Chris Brown do now? Surely he can’t go back to singing “Yo (Excuse Me Miss).” Well, I have to hand it to the kid. He may have figured out the only way to salvage his career – becoming a rapper.

Of course! A good kid singing sweet songs can’t get away with beating up his girlfriend but a rapper can get away with just about anything.

A new song featuring a rapping Chris Brown is all over the hip-hop sites and Chris has expressed his interest in rapping recently. Sounds like that crisis management pr firm he hired might be worth the big bucks he’s paying them.
